Best free AI voice generator

ElevenLabs sounds the most human. Fish Audio lets you use the free voice in paid work. Kokoro is free with no account.

The short answer

ElevenLabs has the most natural voices and a free plan with 10,000 credits a month, about 10 minutes of speech. But the free plan doesn’t include a commercial license. If you want to use a free voice in a YouTube video or an ad, Fish Audio’s free plan allows commercial use. For a quick read-aloud with no sign-up, try Kokoro.

ElevenLabs: the one that sounds real

Paste in text, pick a voice, press play. ElevenLabs is the name most people know, and for good reason: the voices breathe and pause like people do. Free gets you 10,000 credits a month. One letter of text costs about one credit, so that’s roughly 10 minutes of speech.

Here’s the bit people miss. The commercial license, and copying your own voice, start on the Starter plan at $6 a month. So the free plan is for trying it out, not for client work.

Fish Audio: free and allowed in paid work

Fish Audio’s free plan needs no credit card and includes commercial use and voice cloning. You get 8,000 credits a month, about 7 minutes, and each clip is capped at 500 characters, so long scripts mean pasting in chunks. Plus is $15 a month ($11 if you pay yearly). Its new Drama 3 model is good at emotion, like whispering or shouting.

Kokoro: no account at all

Kokoro TTS is a free demo you open in your browser. Type, pick a voice, download. It won’t fool anyone like ElevenLabs can, but for a quick voiceover draft or reading a page aloud, it’s hard to beat free with no sign-up.

For lots of audio

If you’re turning whole books or courses into audio, the monthly plans add up. KugelAudio charges by the minute, from €0.035, and is free to start.
