Best AI headshot generator (and when to skip AI)

HeadshotPro is the safest paid pick, from $29. Gemini can do it free, but only if you start with one good photo of yourself.

The short answer

For a LinkedIn or company-page photo, use HeadshotPro. $29 gets 30 headshots in about two hours, it deletes your selfies after 30 days and it says it never trains AI on them. Aragon is about the same deal while its 20% sale runs. To spend nothing, give Gemini one sharp, well-lit photo and ask it to change only the background and jacket. Whatever you buy, judge the results in the preview: the money-back promises end the moment you download a photo.

Prices from each maker’s own page, checked October 15, 2026. All three paid services charge once per shoot, not monthly.

How these services work

You upload a handful of ordinary selfies, pick backdrops and outfits, and the service builds a model of your face, then generates dozens of studio-style portraits. That’s different from asking a chatbot to edit one photo: the specialists see your face from several angles, so the results tend to look more like you. Expect to keep a few, not all. HeadshotPro’s own refund page says “most photos won’t be keepers.”

Skip subscriptions for this. Photo AI, an app for making AI photos of yourself in any setting, starts at $19 a month, and its own pricing page lists “Low likeness” as a feature of that Starter plan. One-time headshot services are cheaper for a single job.

Why HeadshotPro is our pick

HeadshotPro is the cheapest way in at $29 for 30 headshots, ready in about two hours. The $39 Professional plan is the one to buy: 50 photos in about 30 minutes and a free redo within 14 days. Its pricing page says your uploaded selfies are deleted 30 days after the shoot and are never used to train AI.

The catch is the refund. It’s real, but only if you haven’t downloaded a single photo and it’s within 14 days of paying. Look through the whole set in the preview before you save anything.

Aragon if you want more to choose from

Aragon gives you more photos per dollar: 40 for $35, 60 for $45 or 100 for $75. Those are “20% off, limited time” prices; the page lists $44, $56 and $94 as normal. The two cheaper plans come out at 896 x 1088 pixels, which Aragon notes is well above the 400 x 400 LinkedIn recommends. For anything printed, the $75 plan doubles that.

Same trap on refunds: Aragon’s refund policy says downloading your photos counts as using the product, and requests must come within 14 days.

BetterPic for a sharp 4K file

Every BetterPic plan delivers 4K files, and the $79 Expert plan adds unlimited touch-ups by a human editor on one photo, plus a free redo. The $39 Pro plan is the value pick: 60 photos in three styles. Ignore the crossed-out $59, $79 and $129 prices. Its refund window is 7 days, half as long as the other two.

The free route: Gemini, used carefully

Gemini’s free plan includes image editing, and its image model (the one people call Nano Banana) will happily turn a selfie into a “professional headshot.” The problem is that it redraws your whole face. A headshot photographer tested it on r/headshots with a good selfie and said the results “Kinda look like me but definitely don’t.” ChatGPT has the same habit; one widely liked post on X called the headshot in ChatGPT’s own ad “basically a cartoon.”

What works: take one sharp photo facing a window, then ask Gemini to change only the background and clothes, and to keep your face exactly as it is. Small changes drift less than a whole new picture.

When a real photo is the better buy

A real photographer still wins for anyone who meets clients face to face: realtors, coaches, therapists, actors. In an r/linkedin thread asking whether an AI profile photo is tacky, most replies said yes, and one said it “gives away scam vibes.” People who see your photo and then meet you will notice if they don’t match.

Be suspicious of “I tested 3 AI headshot apps” posts

Reddit advice on this topic is unusually polluted. On r/headshots, one member started a thread saying AI headshot tools are secretly campaigning on Reddit with posts that don’t match the authors’ history, and another asked to ban them because “They are all ads for their services, pretending to be users.” The pattern the first poster describes is one friendly post that promotes several tools at once. Trust the maker’s own refund terms more than the reviews.

Quick questions

Is there a good free AI headshot generator?

Gemini’s free plan is the best free option, as long as you start with a sharp, real photo and ask it to change only the background and clothing. The paid services start at $29 and look more like you.

Can I use ChatGPT to make a headshot?

Yes, but like Gemini it redraws your whole face from one photo, so the result often looks a bit off. The paid specialists use several selfies to get your face right.

Can I get a refund on an AI headshot?

Usually only before you download anything. HeadshotPro and Aragon both refund within 14 days if you haven’t downloaded a photo. BetterPic’s window is 7 days.

What happens to the selfies I upload?

HeadshotPro deletes uploads 30 days after the shoot, and BetterPic says it keeps images at most 30 days after delivery. Both say they never train AI on your photos.
